down by the water front / on a bridge by the promenade
the ferries (busses!) to Lido leave from around here, also ferries (busses!) to the airport and to the railay station.
Actually it looks and feels as if almost all boats (busses and taxis) come here sooner of later.
Otherwise the promenade is usually quite crowded, tourists from all over the world walk up and down the pier,
between Piazza San Marco and the Giardini, where also the Biennale is located
with its collection of international pavilions.
